After three years as a sports reporter at The Island Packet newspaper in Bluffton, S.C., I recently was named the first University of South Carolina Beaufort beat writer for the Packet and the Beaufort Gazette, and I'm also in charge of producing online sports content for both papers' Web sites. I also contribute award-winning breaking news stories, features, enterprise projects, columns and game stories to a sports section that has been recognized as one of the best in its circulation category in the Associated Press Sports Editors contest in many categories in the past three years.
